KONA KITTY gets his first tast and look-see at real, honest-to-goodness snow!

This is where the snow came from - way up on the top of Mauna Kea at 13, 796 feet. It is recommended that you stop at the Visitor's Center at approximately 9,000 feet for at least a half hour (longer is recommended and they have a lot of stuff to look at there) to let your body acclimate to the altitude.

Remember that even though you are on a tropical island, it gets VERY COLD up here - hats, jackets, gloves, real shoes (not rubber slippers!), sunscreen, sunglasses or goggles are a must !

Mom made some tropical snow people out of the snow she and Henri brought down from the mountain to Kona. But you have to work fast; this stuff MELTS very, very fast here in Kona at a temperature usually ranging in the 70's and 80's. Create your art quickly, appreciate it, and watch it melt! Or have a quick snowball fight!
