This white with the yellow center is one of KONA KITTY'S favorite plumerias. It has a citrusy, not too sweet fragrance, and the plant does not lose its leaves like the other plumeria plants. This white one is called Singapore.
In Sri Lanka and the South Pacific, the flower is called FRANGIPANI. The frangipani, however, usually refers to pinkish-reddish plumeria, which is a different variety from the whites and yellows. |

These pink plumeria blossoms are smaller than the Singapore ones, and they have a slightly different fragrance - quite sweet.
The botanical name, plumeria, was given for the French botanist, Plumier, who probably introduced the flower from tropical America. A mistake was made in the spelling and, instead of calling the flower "plumiera" people called it "plumeria."

THE BOUGIE BUNCH.....(BOUGAINVILLEAS)

I know there's a gecko hiding in here somewhere!

These are the greatest flowers - although they don't seem like a flower - they have a "papery" feel. These grow all over Hawai'i, and appear in a variety of brilliant, vivid colors. One particular variety produces both white and vivid pink blossoms on the same plant!

I just love to surround myself with these colorful bougainvilleas!

ORCHIDS - from THE ORCHID ISLE
Mom went to a West Hawaii Water Garden Society meeting and took this photo of the lady's orchids - Suzanne also belongs to the Orchid Society here in Hawaii. There's tons to do on the Big Island! And you can raise some orchids like these quite easily! (or so Suzanne says!)
